The Home Brain
A Home Brain is a PC at home that keeps your notebook and runs a local AI. You can use a PC you already have, or get one of our kits.
What you need
- At least: a Windows PC with 8 GB of RAM. It gives very simple answers for one person. With 16 GB or more, it gives solid answers for 1 to 3 people.
- Better: a graphics card with 12 to 16 GB of its own RAM, or a Mac with Apple silicon and 16 GB or more. It answers well for a whole family.
- Free space for the local AI: about 2 GB for the smallest, up to about 45 GB for the largest.
- It should stay on and stay home, plugged into power and your home network.
What each size can do
| Size | People at once | What it can do | Model it runs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | 1 person | Simple answers from your pages. It hands off to you more often. | qwen3:4b |
| Good | 1 to 3 people | Solid answers with sources, summaries and sensible follow-up questions. | qwen3:8b |
| Better | 2 to 6 people | Reliable Ask answers, decisions weighed by your sides, emails in your voice. | gemma3:12b |
| Great | 4 to 10 people | Close to cloud AI for everyday work: long documents and nuanced decisions. | gemma3:27b |
| Best | 5 to 25 people | Business-grade reasoning across many sources, for a whole team at once. | llama3.3:70b |
The app runs the same check on your PC when you set it up. A PC without a graphics card tops out at Good, however much RAM it has.
